Newquay
Newquay is situated on the north coast of Cornwall and is the
premier holiday resort in the county. With its miles of beautiful
sandy beaches spread around a large bay and adjoining coastline
it attracts significant numbers of visitors over an extended
season each summer. Our coastline forms a spectacular part of
the Cornwall coastal path for those who like walking. The Atlantic
swells create excellent surf conditions which attract those who
enjoy the sport of surfing and Newquay’s Fistral beach hosts
many national & international contests every year. The tidal
harbour was once a busy working port but now its activities are
restricted to use by a limited commercial fishing fleet, pleasure
boat and angling trips in the summer and a very active gig rowing
club which, throughout the year, take part in racing Cornwall’s
traditional 6-oared clinker-built vessels against crews from
around the county and beyond.

The town acts as a centre for the holiday trade in Cornwall and
many people use Newquay as a base to visit attractions including
“The Eden Project” at St Austell, the “Maritime
Museum” in Falmouth and the “Tate of the West”
in St Ives.
Other family attractions closer to Newquay include a zoo and
a wide number of other wildlife, country and farming interpretive
centres.
